March 2010
Greetings from a much shaken Chile. As the international news has reported, a massive 8.8 earthquake hit this country, causing panic, disrupting communications, destroying infrastructure, and sadly taking over 400 lives. In La Serena, the quake measured 5.2, a significant level, but not enough to cause any damage. Kathleen was in Lima, Peru, at the time finishing out a week-long conference. The quake damaged the Santiago airport, thus causing a huge air traffic bottleneck. Kathleen actually returned home ten days later than anticipated. This was a bit of a challenge for the family, but we realized that it was such an insignificant inconvenience compared to the loss of so many in southern Chile.
Many of you have asked how you can help in disaster relief. Please PRAY for this country, especially for the new government as it begins the long and laborious process of prioritizing rebuilding projects. Ask God to provide many opportunities for believers and congregations to reach out, to minister in Jesus’ name, and to take advantage of opportunities to share the Gospel of salvation during this time when people are especially afraid and sensitive.
You can GIVE through the International Mission Board disaster relief fund or through Baptist Global Response. 100% of your financial help goes directly to the affected area and is distributed by knowledgeable people who live on the field and are experienced in the local culture.

COME as a volunteer, either in a short term project, or encourage your church/ association to adopt a community for longer-term ministry and church planting objectives.
Our work in north Chile continues. We are seeing growth and blessing. We are so thankful for your encouragement, your prayers, and support. This year promises to be a busy one, and for that we are grateful.
May God bless you. Continue to pray for us,….and come for a visit!
